Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) at Causeway Green Primary
‘We want all children to grow up healthy, happy, safe, and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain. That is why, from September 2020, all primary age children will be taught Relationships and Health Education.’ Department for Education 2020
At Causeway Green Primary School, we also share the same vision as the one stated by the department of education above. That is why we have invested a lot of time and resources in developing our RSHE curriculum. For the past three years we have followed the Jigsaw curriculum. This is a scheme of work that has been created by a team of teachers and health professionals that assures all of the statutory requirements of the RSHE curriculum are taught to your children.
What is Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE, and how does it work?
Jigsaw is a whole-school approach and embodies a positive philosophy and creative teaching and learning activities to nurture children’s development as compassionate and well-rounded human beings as well as building their capacity to learn.
Jigsaw is a comprehensive and completely original PSHE Education programme (lesson plans and teaching resources) for the whole primary school from ages 3-11 (12 in Scotland). Written by teachers and grounded in sound psychology, it also includes all the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education, and Sex Education is also included in the Changing Me Puzzle (unit).’ Jigsaw 2020
We have provided further information for our parents below so that you can read what the statutory requirements are for the curriculum and how we teach them to all of the children within our school.
We also offer opportunities during the school year to share and discuss the lessons your child shall be taking part in and the resources used to support them. If you would like to discuss any of the curriculum further then opportunities to meet with your child’s class teacher, the PSHE lead and the Headteacher can be arranged.
I hope you find this information useful and that it reassures you as to why it is important to teach children about RSHE at Causeway Green Primary School.
